The friction wedge is a component of the wedge-type vibration damper used in the 18-9996 freight car bogie and serves to dampen wagon oscillations. It is installed in the gap between the vertical surface of the spring opening and the inclined surface of the side frame of the freight car bogie. In the design of the 18-9996 freight car bogie, the friction wedge functions as a movable connection between the bolster and the side frame.
The friction wedge installed in the 18-9996 bogie is suitable for operation throughout the 1,520 mm gauge railway network.
